Alberto Coz is doing a short research stay as visiting lecturer in the department of mechanical engineering at the University College London, UCL, under the supervision of Dr. Paul Hellier. The research stay is about the study of the characteristics of biofuels in engines in order to propose the most promising alternatives for lignocellulosic waste materials and mixtures. The research stay is funded under the STSM (Short Term Scientific Missions) of the FP1306 COST Action “Valorisation of lignocellulosic biomass side streams for sustainable production of chemicals, materials & fuels using low environmental impact technologies” (LIGNOVAL) and the results of this work will be focused on asking for an European proposal. During his stay, Alberto Coz has given a seminar about the GER research group and the BRIGIT European project.

Alberto Coz has participated in the 2nd workshop of the FP1306 COST Action ““Valorisation of lignocellulosic biomass side streams for sustainable production of chemicals, materials & fuels using low environmental impact technologies” (LIGNOVAL) in Dubrovnik from 4th to 5th April, 2016. COST is an intergovernmental framework for European Cooperation in Science and Technology, allowing the coordination of nationally-funded research on a European level. In addition, Alberto Coz has given the oral contribution “Hydrolysis and valorisation of Sambucus nigra into artisan products” by Alberto Coz, Isabel Rodríguez-Díaz, Ana I. Portilla, Laura Ulloa, Tamara Llano, Carlos Thomas and Josefa Fernández-Ferreras, about the research work of the group with Besarte Fibra Natural ( www.besarte.com)

Alberto Coz has participated in the 42th Month Meeting of the BRIGIT European Project “New tailor-made biopolymers produced from lignocellulosic sugars waste for highly demanding fire-resistant applications'. BRIGIT aims to develop a cost-competitive and environmentally friendly continuous process to produce biopolymers (polyhydroxybutyrate, PHB, and succinate-based biopolyesters, PBS-Poly-Butylene-Succinate) from waste-derived lignocelullosic sugar feedstock liquor of wood sulphite pulping process. 16 partners from 11 countries participate in the project. The meeting was placed in Bath, UK, from 24th to 25th, January, 2016. http://www.brigit-project.eu/.

In addition to the BRIGIT meeting, Alberto Coz has visited Imperial College London (contact: Chris Cheeseman) together with the laboratories of the Department of Mechanical Engineering of the University College London (contact: Paul Hellier) to continue and open the collaboration with both institutions.
